Created by young Finland based designer, Harri Koskinen, the Block Lamp is an ingenious decorative light to own– and a classic at that. Playing up a whole slew of contrasting elements and contradictions of the world, this award winning light design is simple but progressive.Playing up opposites like fire and ice, hot and cold really make this design stand out among others, which likely helped when it became a MoMA staple just over a decade ago. This light could be utilized successfully within a contemporary, shabby chic, industrial or traditional space with the same “wow” effect. Not to mention, most of the process is done by hand, down to hand casting and an exponentially long cooling process as well.

In place of lightning bugs, Swedish studio Jangir Maddadi Design Bureau has fostered a family of lighting bugs. Appropriately christened Swarm Lamp, these wooden and glass lights hang suspended in flight and buzz with the hum of electricity surging through the filament in each bug’s transparent head. The bodies of light hang freely, able to sway ever so slightly as if in conversation with one another. The organic tapering of the wooden thoraxes is anatomically referential to a real insect’s stinger, but Swarm Lamp is a friendly counterpart.

Shipping Container Hotel Unique Style
There’s nothing more exciting and comforting when traveling than setting up at your favorite hotel chain, or on the other side of the spectrum – trying something completely outside of the box. With the “Sleeping Around” shipping container hotel travelers can have both. Geoffrey Stampaert created this concept much like the ever popular “pop up shops” that have taken over shopping malls everywhere and based it on a hotel design. Upcycled shipping containers have been created into room modules that can be packed up, shipped off and you can stay in your favorite “room” in an endless variety of locations. The hotel is a total of 7 shipping containers with four rooms and the other three being a lounge, sauna, kitchen and breakfast space. Each room has all of the sleeping essentials: bed, bathroom, shower and even AC. One full ‘wall’ of the container is comprised of sliding glass doors, and the hotel has the potential to be a fully sustainable hospitality compound.

PINPIN Studio has recently finished their suite “Beam Me Up” at the ICEHOTEL, in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. This is the duo´s second suite for the ICEHOTEL. They did their first one, “Kraken´s Lair”, last year.
In “Beam Me Up“, PINPN Studio wants to combine an artistic approach with playfulness and humor. In the suite, the visitors should feel like they are a part of a story, that something is going on around them and that they are involved. The whole room becomes a stage, where the visitor is the actor.
What you will see when you enter is four UFO:s hovering over the trees surrounding Torne River in northern Sweden, below the Northern Lights.
The UFO:s are made out of snow, like the walls and the ceiling in the room, and the beams of light coming out of them are together with the bed made out of the clearest ice in the world, from Torne River.
