Apelle is a minimalist house located in Karjaa, Finland, designed by Marco Casagrande.Apelle is a wooden one family house located in Karjaa – Finland. The building rests in a natural harbor like a boat in a sheltering pocket surrounded by bed rocks and trees. The interior space of Apelle is a continuous tube that grows gradually along the house and through the main opening and terrace into the forest.
Along this axis the collective and private actions are tuned according to the times, functions and needs of the day and night. The same space is used for everything from sleeping to eating and from socializing to work as a studio space or a gym. This kind of multi-functional space of “tupa” or “pirtti” is common in traditional Finnish architecture. A free standing cube serves for water with a sleeping loft on top.

“This house was designed to provide simple, functional, generous, private and light-filled living spaces for a young family within the constraints of a small inner city block sandwiched between 14 adjacent properties. Our central idea was to wrap the original workers’ cottage with a continuous series of indoor and outdoor spaces. Spatially, we have used the small block to maximise advantage, setting up a dialogue between the garden space and the interior living areas to create the illusion of a bigger site. Each downstairs living room – interior and exterior- ‘borrows’ space from the other, maximising volume, light and air. Floating above the ground plane is a sculpted, faceted timber volume containing the main bedroom, ensuite, library/gallery and study. The upstairs spaces have been carefully shaped and designed to preserve neighbouring views and sunshine, to open the house to sunlight and ventilation, and to provide views to garden vistas and the surrounding harbour and Anzac Bridge views.The material palette is simple, natural and textural, and sustainability and reducing energy usage were also key considerations. A natural ventilation system and hydronic heating is provided in the new house, and the project utilises recycled and sustainable building products.”

Completed in 2009, this 1,421 square foot contemporary home consists of wood wool cement board and glass walls, blurring the line between interior and exterior.

1001 is a minimalist home located in Tokyo, Japan, designed by Keiji Ashizawa. The interior is a renovation in one of Tokyo’s 23 special wards called Nakano City. The space is comparative to Ashizawa’s other projects which all have an industrial and darker complex. In this particular project, the ceilings are beautifully exposed with semi-transparent partitions separating the different rooms.

Stripe House is a minimalist house located in Leiden, The Netherlands designed by GAAGA Studio for Architecture. The home resides in a specific urban planning area where clients can develop their own houses. The residence is on a corner plot adjacent to the park nearby, and north-west of the pedestrian streets.
The cube-like structure encloses a three-story dwelling – each floor having their own specific function. The ground floor houses the office space, the next level contains the kitchen, living, and dining rooms, while the upper floors hold the bedrooms. Enormous windows practically span the entire width of the building to offer an abundance of natural light.
