Most city parts of Almere, a city with almost 190.000 inhabitants, have a petting farm. In the ‘den Uyl’ park there used to be one, but it burned down in the early 80′s, leaving only its concrete foundation. Early 2005 we were commissioned by the municipality of Almere to design a new petting farm on the exact location and the remaining foundation. The building was finally built using almost only sponsored money, and finished late 2008.

This unique collaboration between multi-award winning architecture firm Donovan Hill and the home’s owner, producing an extravagant wool store conversion in Teneriffe, Queensland. The residence offers the perfect fusion of contemporary design, historic industrial elements and outdoor space. The apartment is comprised of 1,733 square feet (178 square meters) with plenty of unique features including a 14 meter wall that offers three openings, and an access to the private outdoor area. Boasting rich timber, up-lit oversized potted plant, built-in benches and a Perspex portal framed daybed, this extravagant outdoor area is a completely private retreat.

New York. As the city takes stock in a post-boom era, Axis Mundi sees this as the time to rethink the tall buildings that have become synonymous with New York City’s identity, proposing a conceptual alternative to 53W53rd, among the city’s largest skyscraper projects in one of the most overbuilt parts of Midtown.

The Vertical Neighborhood
Instead of disguising the tower’s mix of uses by containing them within a unitary, homogeneous form, the Axis Mundi design expresses that diversity in a re-organized way, reflecting an emerging reality for tall buildings as collections of domestic elements: dwellings, neighborhoods, streets.
