Description of the project from the designer, “it was a rough diamond of a house that needed a lot of shining up to transform it into something really special. The clients are a very charismatic couple, with four daughters and one son, who are all incredibly stylish and adventurous. The couple wanted the sitting room to have the sumptuous feel of The Ritz hotel, but with more color, and the only stipulation they demanded for the whole scheme was that they had to have a yellow and turquoise padded sofa. I wanted to create a sort of Mad Hatter’s tea party, Alice in Wonderland vibe. It’s not immediately obvious, but look hard and you’ll see clock faces in table tops, clocks in sinks, outsize headboards and tiny chairs. There’s a hint of fantasy and romance in every room.”

Bridge House in Wooded Grasslands
The Bridge House has been designed by San Francisco-based architecture studio Stanley Saitowitz | Natoma Architects, situated in Marin, California. The site is fifteen acres of wooded grasslands with a ravine running through. The house bridges the ravine, spanning east to west. The house is a continuous twenty-two-foot wide two-story bar.
A stair leads up to the entry court. The living areas are the upper level and have continuous glass walls which look north to the hill. The bedrooms below have continuous glass walls, which look south to the theater in the landscape. From above and below two opposite experiences of the site are focused, one broad and expansive, the other defined and closed.
Along the upper bridge are two open courts, one for the entry, the other connecting the main house to the pool and guest house. A deck links these courts on the north, and connects to paths that lead into the landscape with walks up the hill. Walls and roof are clad in corten steel plate; viewed from above, the rusty bar bridges the golden grass slopes. The residence also features a spectacular blue pool that branches off the bar and projects up through the hillside.

Spaceship-House in Austria
Nestled up on the rooftops in the Weiden District of Vienna, Austria is a townhome that looks as if it doesn’t belong– almost like an alien intruder. Architect couple Elke Meissl and Roman Delugan built their custom home with the intent to present dynamic architecture in the midst of an eclectic mix of buildings.
The family dubs their kitchen area the “culinary cockpit” where plenty of the linear and angular elements are carried over from the three outside terraces and the interior structural elements to create a spaceship style home that is fit for any tech geek, Star Wars fan or contemporary design lover alike.
There are plenty of illusions going on in this space, with floor to ceiling glass, sloped wooden floors, hidden built ins and various planes of continuous space. The futuristic bathroom looks like you’re traveling at light speed, and one of the outdoor terraces even boasts a small pool.

This three story residence was designed by the team at A-Cero. The contemporary palace lies on a hillside slope, and features an extremely minimalistic facade covered in alternation layers of both glass and marble constructed walls.
