Thorax Lowboard by Rafael Cichy
Rafael Cichy designed a modular furniture from concrete. It is a lowboard for consumer electronics like HiFi or TVs….
Concrete as an material is perfect suitable to build a hifi rack.
Because of its heavy mass there are no ways for resonances to disturb the sensetive electronics.
There are three base elements to build an indiviuall rack for everyone:
O: for example, space for vinyl
E: with three parking levels for hifi equipment. by turning it upside down your can change height of the middle level.
C: with two parking levels. for example bigger equipment like power amplifier or something else.
It is possible through individual arrangement to adapt to the conditions of various spaces. Depending on the desired e.g. six, ten or 15 elements are strung together.
The measurments are: 52 cm x 52 cm x 8 cm with a thickness of 4 cm
The conncectors are available in three wides: 5 cm ; 4 cm ; 3 cm
Material: stainless steel or aluminium (brushed / anodized)
The three wides makes it possible to adjust the distances between each element to the device-feets of the present hifi equipment.
thereby it is possible to make an curved arrangment. this will amplified the filigree formal language of the lowboard
and breaks with the afflicted conventional context of the concrete as an building material. The addition of pigments also allows the coloring of concrete in different colors. A desired weight reduction is possible by appropriate additives. The surface structure can vary depending on demand smooth and shiny or dull and rough.
oOand of course it is possible to use thorax as speaker stands.
