Designed by the artist Joseph Michael Neustifter, this model in the ‚Iron Dog‘ range of stoves is called
HURAXDAX. The side walls are decorated with lettering spelling out the brand name, which translated from the Bavarian means ‘Let the joy begin‘.. The front is adorned with a work from the artist using the Pegasus motif.
The idea is for the ‘Iron Dog‘; range to be special in terms of design and quality – yet, according to
Ulrich Brunner, a design model should be something quite exceptional. It is for this reason that one
of the region‘s best known artists was commissioned to design a special edition.
As a rule these units are made from cast iron, i.e. models are made, these are used to construct sand
moulds and the individual components are made from liquid iron. However, as the Bavarian manufacturer explains, to achieve the ultimate and captivate one-off, discerning customers, you need to go one
step further.
As a consequence a great amount of time and effort as well as numerous trials went into casting stove
components in pure precious metals with pieces weighing up to 50 kg per component. A HURAXDAX
in sterling silver has a weight in silver of approx.170kg and a weight of 260 kg in 18 carat gold.
The biggest challenge was the fact that silver does not change colour with temperature. Brunner found
a solution. For the precious metals employed concern is not justified as regards temperature stability.
Silver becomes malleable at a temperature of 650°C and has a melting point of over 900°C. Gold is more
stable than silver.
