Rustam moved into his own apartment in Khrushchyovka at Akademicheskaya four years ago. The apartment fell to him from his grandmother and the owner decided to change the interior completely. A professional construction gang carried out the repair under his supervision. Primary changes of apartment layout concerned tiny bathroom and toilet: the wall between them was demounted and a shower cabin and a washing machine were installed instead of the bathtub. Original parquet in a herring-bone pattern was restored in the room, and linoleum was laid in the kitchen and in the corridor from practical considerations.

Rustam thought out the apartment design by himself, taking ideas from foreign blogs. The interior was subjected to considerable changes for four years and they continue to the present day. Before realization of a new idea in practice the owner tries it by means of modeling in Google Sketchup program.

There are many things from Ikea in the apartment, but there are also vintage interior items bought on eBay and at local jumble markets: lamps Ateljé Lyktan and Harvey Guzzini, fiberglass armchair by designers Charles and Ray Eames.

The family moved into their apartment in a new residential complex at the intersection of Leningradsky and Vernadskogo prospects a year ago. The district attracted them by its intelligent community.

For the moment of purchase the apartment represented an L-shaped concrete block without internal partitions with windows facing different sides – a park, a yard, and Leninsky prospect. The repair lasted nine months, mostly because the workers were not allowed to live in the apartment and they had to make the repair during the time strictly specified by the developer.

Architectural and interior designs were developed by the hostess completely and with no troubles: Marina is engaged in interiors professionally.

Eco-Cabanas by Kristofer Nonn

1 eco cabanas by kristofer nonn Eco Cabanas by Kristofer Nonn
Beautiful architecture isn’t necessarily tied to the allure of glazed facades or the jaw-dropping sticker price. Designer Kristofer Nonn proves this point with the economically and ecologically friendly cabañas designed for Peace Villages Foundation. The two prototypes of Windscoop and Mariposa, both as part of the Eco-Cabañas project, are built from locally-sourced materials and are designed to combat the harsh weathers and corrosion from South American rains. The low-cost solution – ringing in at $500 USD – incorporate two intersecting, corrugated zinc roof planes resembling butterfly wings that guide water away from committing structural deterioration. Both built examples mark the site of Santa Elena in Venezuela, and even display a colorful flair through the recycled bottles embedded into the wall, a stippled and light-transmitting mosaic.
